Good news!

Talk about an emotional day! Whew! Today we took our Clay to Children's Hospital in St. Louis for a hearing exam. He has had difuculty with them in the past, and was not looking forward to this trip at all! The only thing that kept him positive, is going to Daddy's "big work" to pick him up to ride along... or rather drive his very nervous wife, me!

We have been dealing with Clay's hearing issues for quite some time, and I've asked our Dr. numerous times about sending Clay on to an ENT, considering not one of us has tonsils/adnoids aside from our lil guy, not to mention, the kid sounds like a chain saw when he sleeps... but, each and every visit ended up with me leaving rather discouraged, with an antibiotic prescription or ear wax removal in hand.

I lost my humor about the situation quite some time ago, and the, "man buddy, ya got taters in your ears" was not funny any longer.... uh hello..... my son can't hear! He watches my lips when I speak to him... So, finally, Clay failed two hearing tests back to back at school, off we go to the Dr. yet again, only to have them flush Clay's ears with warm water, and the big shiny squirter, as Clay calls it.... and "yep, they look better"... uh huh... my son still can't hear! Then finally on a Friday afternoon, Clay's teacher comes to my car, and explains to me, that she's concerned about Clay not being able to hear her... DING DING DING!!!! Thank you Mrs. Lowis, NOW I have had enough! Off we go to the Dr. the following Monday, and I insist we see someone different, done! I insist Clay have a hearing test, done! I insist we see a specialist, done!

So, today was the day! Ever been in a sound proof room... quite an experience, trust me! Anyway, we go in, Clay has his hearing test, such a lil trooper by the way, and the poor guy is set up to fail... we know he can't "pass" it, but now we just need to learn what happens next, and how bad the damage is due to waiting forever, and ever, and ever.....  So I sit in my chair, next to my husband, watching my lil guy fail yet another hearing test, and I am thinking... I've failed him. We are his voice. He is 6 years old, and it's my job to speak up, when he can't, and it took me two years to do it.... my heart hurt, my tummy hurt, my pride hurt, but most of all, I failed him.

The test is over... here she comes.... has a seat across from us, by the way, Clay is now bored stiff, and has literally turned himself upside down in a chair... in a sound proof room no less... I swear I could hear Joes heart beating... So, the kiddo fails both ears, no surprise there, but.... when they tell us fluid is present, and when they bypass the fluid, (with their handy dandy supa smart puter), Clay has normal hearing! That's right!!! NORMAL! I know all the reasons, but I'll keep this short, as my post is forever long... we NOW go to an ENT (they'll call us with an appt), Clay's damage is not permanent, and can most likely be resolved through surgery. Thank you God!!! I've prayed, and thanked, and thanked some more... and now we wait... again....

If you have a feeling something just isn't quite right... don't settle... make them listen! Momma's know!!!

  1. Thank you God !! You are a good mama...you haven't failed him honey. AND--you've taught him an important lesson about perseverance, because you never gave up.

    Go, YOU !!!!
